Women's Soccer Set To Face Rutgers On Friday

UConn vs. Rutgers Game Notes in PDF Format
The UConn women's soccer team will look to build on its 3-0 victory over Syracuse last weekend as it travels to Rutgers for another BIG EAST contest. The Huskies own a 5-4-2 (1-1-1 BIG EAST) record while the Scarlet Knights stand at 6-5-0 (1-2-0 BIG EAST). Live stats, audio and video will be available through UConnhuskies.com. UConn sits tied for third in the BIG EAST American Division while Rutgers sits in a tie for fifth in the BIG EAST National Division.
LAST TIME OUT: UConn rebounded from a tough 2-1 defeat at home against St. John's on Thursday, September 23 with a 3-0 victory at Syracuse on Sunday, September 26. With the victory, UConn earned its first BIG EAST win of the season. Senior Erin Clark (Somers, Conn.) tallied the game-winning goal 1:58 into the contest on Sunday. Graduate student Angelika Johansson (Falkenburg, Sweden) tallied a pair of insurance tallies to secure the victory. Junior Jessica Dulski (Pittsford, N.Y.) earned the victory. She conceded to sophomore Ally Mancino (Belle Mead, N.J.) with 10 minutes remaining in regulation as the two players combined to make six saves to earn the shutout.
FRIDAY FACEOFF: Connecticut will travel to Piscataway, N.J. to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 7:00 p.m. at Yurcak Field, the home of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship. Connecticut is undefeated on Friday's, boasting a 1-0-2 record thus far.

LEADING THE WAY: Junior forward Jessica Shufelt (Rochester, N.Y.) leads the team with five goals on the season. She's added two assists for a team-high 12 points. Last season, Shufelt recorded three goals and four assists for 12 points. She was recently featured on ESPN U's Impact Performer of the Week feature. Shufelt scored four goals in one weekend in a pair of UConn overtime victories against Illinois (2-1) and Penn State (3-2). To view the clip, CLICK HERE.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS: Rutgers comes into Friday's game with a 6-5-0 record along with a 1-2-0 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Scarlet Knights have four players with multiple goals on the season, led by redshirt-freshman Jonelle Filigno's three tallies. Filigno is also tied for the team lead with two assists. Rutgers has outscored its opponents, 16-9, on the season. Redshirt-sophomore Emmy Simpkins has started nine games for Rutgers. She stands at 5-4-0 with a 0.89 goals against average. She's recorded four shutouts this season.
Rutgers has been ranked for much of this season. They dropped out of the most recent polls but were ranked No. 24 in last week's NSCAA poll.
SERIES HISTORY: UConn owns a 14-1-4 all-time record against the Scarlet Knights. In the last three contests, the two teams have played to double-overtime ties. RU and UConn faced each other in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals three-consecutive years from 2004-2006. UConn defeated the Scarlet Knights, 1-0, in 2004 before winning in penalty kicks in 2005. Rutgers returned the favor in 2006, advancing, 6-5, in PKs.
HITTIN' THE ROAD: UConn stands at 1-1 on the road this season after falling to BU, 3-0, on September 19 and defeating Syracuse, 3-0, on September 26. Away from Morrone Stadium, UConn stands at 1-2-1 having fallen to Virginia and tied William and Mary at the Penn State Invitational from August 27-29. All-time, Connecticut owns a 162-73-17 record on the road.
ONE IS GOOD, BUT TWO IS BETTER: Graduate student Angelika Johansson scored a pair of goals in UConn's 3-0 victory over Syracuse (Sept. 26). She now has three on the season.
CLARK HONORED: Senior Erin Clark put home two goals last weekend, including the game-winning tally in the 3-0 victory over Syracuse. For her efforts, she was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
END TO THE STREAK: Senior Erin Clark scored in the 2-1 defeat against St. John's on September 23. It marked the first time in her career that the Huskies fell when Clark registered a point. Until that game, UConn stood at 15-0 over Clark's four seasons. Clark turned around and scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory over Syracuse on September 26, making it 16-1 all-time when she registers a point.
NEXT GAME: UConn will stay on the road for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Seton Hall on Sunday, October 3 in South Orange, N.J.
