Three Huskies Named 2011 College Top-100 Draft Prospects

STORRS, Conn. - Three members of the University of Connecticut baseball team have been recognized among Baseball America's 2011 College Top-100 Draft Prospects as announced by the publication on Monday.
George Springer, Matt Barnes and Nick Ahmed were all named among the 100 college players. Anthony Rendon from Rice has been selected as the top choice on the Baseball America list.
Springer leads the way for the Huskies as he was tagged as the No. 5 choice. Springer has been named a Louisville Slugger preseason First Team All-American as well as a preseason First Team choice by the College Baseball Lineup. He was also named to the NCBWA Preseason Third Team.
Barnes, who was picked in the seventh spot, was also tagged as a College Baseball Lineup and Louisville Slugger Third Team Preseason All-American.
Both Springer and Barnes spent the 2010 summer playing with the USA Collegiate Baseball Team. Springer finished the summer batting .292 in 18 games with 21 hits, 12 runs scored and two home runs. Barnes held an ERA of 1.42 with a 3-0 record in four appearances.
Springer was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2010, while Barnes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. In 2009, Springer was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year for his efforts.
Ahmed, who earned the No. 53 spot on the list, was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team in 2010 as he finished the year batting .300 with 80 hits, 57 runs scored and 43 RBI. He also led the Huskies with 34 stolen bases.
