Barnes Named ECAC Pitcher of the Week

STORRS, Conn. - UConn junior Matt Barnes has been named the ECAC Pitcher of the Week as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Barnes threw a complete-game shutout on the road against San Diego on Sunday, the second of his career. The junior right-hander led the Huskies to a 4-0 win after allowing just two hits and a walk over nine innings. He leads the team with 29.1 innings pitched this season with 28 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.53.
For his efforts, he was also named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Barnes was recognized in Baseball America's Golden Spikes Spotlight on Tuesday. The spotlight was written by Aaron Fitt and can be read by clicking here.
USA Baseball's Golden Spikes watch list features the nation's top amateur players who will look to win the Golden Spikes Award, which will be presented on Monday, July 11 at the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Phoenix, Ariz.
Additionally, Barnes was named to this week's National All-Star Line-up provided by The College Baseball Foundation and Diamond Sports.
