Baseball Battles to 2-2 Tie with Holy Cross

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team battled Holy Cross to a 2-2 tie in 16 innings on Tuesday afternoon. The game was called after three hours and 54 minutes of play due to darkness.
Holy Cross (7-8-1) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before UConn (8-9-1) tied the ballgame at two with a Ryan Fuller two-run home run.
Fuller, who recorded his first home run at UConn, plated junior George Springer to knot the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Both teams had their chances as Holy Cross stranded 11 runners, while UConn left nine on base.
UConn's pitching duties were split among four hurlers as Bob Van Woert earned the nod to start the non-conference game. Van Woert went 7.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He struck out a career-high nine batters as well. Dan Feehan had a solid outing as well as he struck out three in 3.1 innings of work.
Will Jolin threw the 12th, 13th and 14th innings as he gave up one hit, while striking out three. Kevin Vance threw two frames for UConn and struck out two Crusaders.
Chris Kono went 8.1 innings as he gave up six hits and two runs, while walking two batters. He was one of four Crusader pitchers to see action on the hill.
Springer finished the game with two hits and one run scored, while Fuller added one hit and two RBI. LJ Mazzilli also registered two hits for UConn.
UConn will return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Yale University. The Huskies are scheduled to take on the Bulldogs beginning at 3:30 p.m.
