Charlie West Selected 7th Round of 2026 MLB Draft

STORRS, Conn. - Junior left-handed pitcher Charlie West was selected in the seventh round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon on day two of the draft.ย
West earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors after leading the BIG EAST Conference with 111 strikeouts. The Friday night starter for the Huskies made 16 starts with eight of them quality starts. He logged 87.1 innings and posted a 4.12ย earned run average.with a 6-6 record. West struck out a career-high 14 batters against Butler on April 12.
West is the 80th player drafted under head coach Jim Penders and 21st consecutive season the Huskies have had at least one player drafted or signed to an MLB affiliated club. Coach Penders has had a player drafted or signed in 22 of his 23 seasons as the head man at UConn (2005). West looks to join the 10 other Huskies that have reached the Major Leagues after playing for Penders with Kyler Fedko the most recent, making his MLB in 2026 for the Minnesota Twins.
West is the 27th pitcher under current pitching coach Josh Macdonald to be drafted or signed. In all 15 seasons as the Huskies pitching coach, Coach MacDonald has had a pitcher drafted or signed.ย
The South Setauket, N.Y. native is also the 18th Husky to be selected in the Top 10 Rounds since the 2009 MLB Draft.ย ย
