Barnes Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - UConn junior Matt Barnes was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office.
This is the second time Barnes has earned the weekly honor this season. Barnes threw a complete game shutout on Friday afternoon in UConn's 7-0 win over Pittsburgh in Storrs to open up conference play. The complete game shutout was his second of the season and third of his career.
The junior allowed just four hits (3 singles, 1 double) while striking out six and not allowing a walk.
In his past four starts, Barnes has not allowed an earned run, while he's combined for 22 strikeouts. He is 4-2 on the year after winning four straight games.
Barnes and the Huskies will take on Hartford in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon in West Hartford, Conn.
