Baseball to Host St. John's this Weekend

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team will host St. John's beginning on Friday in a three-game weekend series. The Huskies and the Red Storm begin the BIG EAST Conference series on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn.
This is the 105th match-up between the two programs dating back to the 1975 season. St. John's leads the all-time series with UConn 53-51 after winning the lone meeting in 2010.
In their last outing, St. John's defeated UConn 3-0 in the 2010 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Tournament in Clearwater, Fla.
UConn enters the weekend with an 11-10-1 overall record and a mark of 2-1 in BIG EAST Conference play, while St. John's is undefeated at 3-0 in the league and boasts a 13-9 overall record.
The Huskies are coming off of an 11-0 shutout over Hartford. Prior to the non-conference win, UConn opened league play with Pittsburgh and took 2-of-3 from the Panthers.
St. John's swept its opening conference series by defeating Cincinnati in three games in Queens, N.Y.
UConn is led in 2011 by Mike Nemeth in 2011 as he has registered a .344 batting average with 32 hits, 16 runs scored and 15 RBI. George Springer has tallied a team-best 22 RBI along with three home runs this season.
On the hill, UConn is led by Matt Barnes who has a 4-2 record and a 0.99 ERA in six starts. He has struck out a team-best 42 batters in 45.1 innings of work. He has also pitched two complete-game shutouts this season and three in his career.
St. John's is led by Joe Panik who is batting .395 with 34 hits, 20 runs and 20 RBI in 22 games played this season. Kyle Hansen has a 2.70 ERA in six appearances along with a 3-2 record. He has struck out 43 batters as well.
