Details of UCONN Victory Rally Following Sunday, April 17's Parade

HARTFORD, Conn., April 13, 2011 - Immediately following the UConn Men's NCAA Basketball Championship Victory Parade this Sunday, April 17, a rally will be held on the North steps of the State Capitol Building. The parade will step off at 3 p.m. from the State Capitol. The rally is expected to begin at approximately 4:15 p.m. and last approximately 30-45 minutes.
Both of the UConn Pep Bands and the UConn Cheerleaders will provide pre-rally entertainment.
The order of the rally is expected to be as follows (please note that this is subject to change):
-Master of Ceremonies Joe D'Ambrosio from WTIC-AM welcomes the crowd, makes introductions and starts the program by introducing Governor Dannel P. Malloy
-Gov. Dannel P. Malloy speaks
-D'Ambrosio introduces Chairman of UConn Board of Trustees Larry McHugh
-D'Ambrosio introduces student-athlete Kemba Walker
-D'Ambrosio introduces Coach Jim Calhoun
-D'Ambrosio concludes the rally and thanks the crowd for attending
The celebratory UConn Victory Parade and Rally are produced by the Hartford Business Improvement District (HBID) and the MetroHartford Alliance in collaboration with the City of Hartford and the State of Connecticut, and a number of civic and business organizations.
The events are being held to congratulate and honor the UConn Basketball Team for winning the 2011 NCAA Men's National Basketball Championship. The Huskies defeated Butler University 53-41 in the NCAA championship game on April 4.
Parade Route: The parade will step off at 3 p.m. from the Connecticut State Capitol Building and will travel north on Trinity Street alongside Bushnell Park, turn right onto Jewell Street, turn left onto Gold Street, turn right onto Main Street, and turn right onto Capitol Avenue before returning to the north steps of the Capitol Building for the outdoor Rally. The team will travel the route atop a double-decker bus, similar to past UConn parades.
