Baseball To Host Georgetown in Three-Game Series

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team will host Georgetown in a three-game BIG EAST Conference series beginning on Thursday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.
The Huskies (23-12-1 overall, 10-2 BIG EAST) will take on the Hoyas on Thursday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m. at J.O. Christian Field in the series' opener.
Georgetown enters the weekend with a 19-19 overall record and a mark of 2-10 in league play. UConn is riding a six-game win streak heading into game one against the Hoyas.
Game two of the series will be played on Friday, April 22 at New Britain Stadium, home of the New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. For tickets click here.
The series' finale will be played on Saturday, April 23 at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn. at 1:00 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
UConn leads the all-time series with Georgetown 42-17 dating back to the 1985 season. Last season, the Huskies swept the Hoyas in the three-game series in Washington, D.C.
LEADING THE WAY
The Huskies enter the series led by George Springer, who is batting .348 in 36 games played. The junior leads the ballclub with five home runs, 16 doubles and 43 RBI. Mike Nemeth has a team-best 48 hits this season to go along with his 29 runs scored and 30 RBI.
Matt Barnes has a 1.04 ERA in nine starts and is 7-2 on the year after seven consecutive wins. He has struck out 61 batters in 69.0 innings of work.
Kevin Vance has registered five saves this season in 14 appearances, while he has recorded an ERA of 2.03 in 13.1 innings of action on the hill for the Huskies.
THE BEST OF THE BIG EAST
UConn enters the BIG EAST Conference series in first place in the league standings with a 10-2 conference record. Pittsburgh, West Virginia and St. John's all stand two games back with records of 8-4 in league play.
The Huskies have already faced Pittsburgh and won the series two games to one, while they also played St. John's and swept the Red Storm back in the beginning of April. UConn is not scheduled to play West Virginia in the BIG EAST regular season this year.
ON A ROLL
UConn is 13-2 in its last 15 games, which includes the Huskies 8-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play during that span. Junior George Springer is leading the way for UConn as he is currently on a 15-game hit streak, which began on March 29 at the University of Hartford.
LEAGUE HONORS
On April 18, sophomore LJ Mazzilli was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after he led UConn to a 4-1 week of play. Mazzilli had nine hits for the Huskies and batted .391 in five games played. The Greenwich, Conn. native also chipped in with seven runs, two triples, three doubles and five RBI.

UConn will host Quinnipiac on Monday, April 25 in non-conference action at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
