Springer Named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Northeast Player of the Week

STORRS, Conn. - George Springer of the UConn baseball team has been named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Northeast Player of the Week as well as ECAC Co-Player of the Week.
Springer, who was tagged as the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, April 25, led the Huskies to a 5-0 showing last week, including a three-game sweep of BIG EAST Conference opponent Georgetown.
Springer recorded his 40th career home run and his team-leading sixth of the season against the Hoyas in UConn's 14-2 victory on Friday afternoon. As of April 26, he is currently on a 20-game hit streak.
On the week, the junior batted .476 in five games with 10 hits, nine runs scored and 14 RBI. Against Georgetown, Springer was 6-for-13 with four RBI, a home run and a double.
Against Fairfield on Tuesday, April 19, Springer had two hits and six RBI, while hitting a double and home run to lead the Huskies.
During the week, Springer had four multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI games. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. The junior added an on-base percentage of .478 and a slugging percentage of .952, a team-best on the week.
