Ahmed Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Connecticut baseball junior Nick Ahmed (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office. Ahmed earns his first weekly award of the season for his performances against Hartford and St. John's last week.
The East Longmeadow, Mass. native posted a .429 batting average as he went 6-for-14 during four contests last week, leading the Huskies to a 4-0 record, including a sweep of BIG EAST foe St. John's. Four of Ahmed's hits came during conference play, while he also led the team with four doubles throughout the week.
The junior tacked on six RBI and seven runs, while also posting three stolen bases. His best performance came during Saturday's 9-1 victory over the Red Storm, as he went three-for-four with three runs, two RBI and two doubles.
On the season, Ahmed leads the Huskies with 24 runs and 14 stolen bases, while he ranks third with 29 hits and fourth with 16 RBI.
Ahmed and the Huskies return to action tomorrow (April 5), as they host Massachusetts in a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest at J.O. Christian Field.
