Testa Earns BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Spot
Sophomore Brittney Testa was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll earlier this week for her performance this past weekend against No. 17 Georgetown. Testa tied her season and career-high with 12 saves in a 14-12 loss to the Hoyas, as she marked the third time this season that she has tallied 10 or more saves. She leads the conference with 10.00 saves per game during BIG EAST play only, while she ranks third with 7.70 saves per game during all contests.
Lapham Notches 100 Career Goals
M.E. Lapham posted her 100th career goal against the Hoyas last weekend, as she tallied four goals during the contest. Lapham is just the fifth Husky to record 100 goals and the first since Kristin Link and Shannon Burke, who did so from 2004-07. She leads the Huskies with 34 goals so far this year, and has now tallied at least 30 goals in each of her seasons as a Husky.
Balanced Attack
So far this season nine Huskies have posted double-figure points giving UConn a balanced attack to work with on the offensive end. Six of these players have also tallied ten or more goals, including Lauren Kahn, M.E. Lapham, Kiersten Tupper, Kacey Pippitt, Lauren Sparks and Mackenzie Rainone. This group has combined for 104 of UConn's 135 goals this year.
UConn Record Book
M.E. Lapham and Kiersten Tupper continue to make an impact on the UConn career record book, as they rank in the top-10 in four categories combined. Lapham is currently fifth with 100 goals, fifth with 248 shots and seventh with 117 points while Tupper ranks third with 59 assists and ninth with 112 points.
Tough Competition
According to this week's IWLCA poll, UConn will face its third of four ranked opponents on Friday when UConn travels to No. 13 Syracuse. The Huskies have already faced then, No. 16 Boston College (March 7) and then, No. 17 Georgetown (April 1), and will face Loyola later this season who is also ranked in the top-20.
Scouting The Orange
Syracuse enters the weekend after dropping three out of its last four contests, with the lone win coming against Rutgers in their only BIG EAST game so far this season. Six of the Orange's nine opponents have been ranked, including the No. 1 and 2 teams in the country, Maryland and Northwestern. Syracuse's Liz Hogan ranks second in the BIG EAST with 8.86 saves per game, while Michelle Tumolo ranks third with 2.00 assists per game. Three members of the 2011 Orange squad have posted 20 points, as Tumolo has 29, and Tee Ladouceur and Katie Webster have 23.
