PROVIDENCE, R.I. - George Springer has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office. It is the second-straight Player of the Week honor for Springer as he was tagged with the same honor on April 25.
Springer led the Huskies to a 5-1 record on the week. He led the Huskies with a .440 batting average, collecting 11 hits, three home runs and a conference-best 15 RBI. He also was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts and scored eight times.
The junior had hits in five of the six contests last week. He went 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in a mid-week win over Central Connecticut. Springer's home run in game two of the series against Rutgers moved him into a tie for second place on Connecticut's career home runs list with 43. He is one away from Mike Olt's program-best tally of 44.
Springer and the Huskies will host USF on Saturday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn.
