The University of Connecticut men's basketball team will play home and home contests against Syracuse University, the University of Notre Dame and Seton Hall University as part of the 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference schedule, announced Thursday by the league as they released the opponents and game sites for all 16 schools.In addition to the home-and home series vs. Syracuse, ND and Seton Hall, the Huskies will host six opponents and travel to six others to round out their 18-game regular season slate.
UConn will host Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, Pittsburgh, St. John's and West Virginia, while traveling to face Georgetown, Louisville, Providence, Rutgers, USF and Villanova.
The Huskies captured the 2011 NCAA Championship and the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Championship, finishing the season 32-9. Each of the 16 BIG EAST teams will play either 12 or 13 conference games against NCAA tournament teams.
The conference schedule will once again include 144 regular-season games as each of the BIG EAST's 16 teams play 18 conference games. Each team will face 12 opponents once and three opponents twice. All 144 regular-season conference games will again be televised, either by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television.
The decisions regarding repeat opponents are based on natural interest, geography, rivalries, television contractual obligations and competitive balance.
The full 2011-12 conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
