Coming off of an 81-56 victory over Croatia on Saturday, Team USA will face Angola in its second contest of the 2012 Olympics tonight in the Basketball Arena at Olympic Park in London at 5:15 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised by NBC Sports Network. UConn head coach Geno Auriemma and six former Huskies played a major role in Saturday's win and look to tack on another victory tonight.
Five of the former Huskies tallied 34 of Team USA's 81 points on Saturday with Tina Charles leading the squad with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Other former UConn greats adding points to Saturday's USA total were Diana Taurasi with eight points, Sue Bird with five, Maya Moore had four points and Swin Cash added three.
UConn assistant director of video services Keith Anderson is traveling with Team USA in London and sat down with the squad's assistant coach Jennifer Gilson to take a look at Angola. Angola is playing in its first Olympic women's basketball tournament.
"Angola is a transition team. They like to go one-on-one but it's a little out of control at times," Gilson shared with Anderson. "We need to be able to contain Angola one-on-one. They have big athletes, especially in the guard position. However, Angola does not utilize its size which is a great thing for us. The key is to contain them and keep them out of the paint."
