STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut lacrosse team is set to travel to Piscataway, N.J. this Friday, April 5, to take on Rutgers at 3:00 pm, in the first of two huge conference games on tap for the weekend. After the Rutgers contest, UConn will travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
The Huskies are coming off a thrilling 16-14 OT win against Oregon at home last Tuesday. Connecticut now sits at 7-1 overall, with the lone loss coming in a BIG EAST showdown against Syracuse. This weekend will be an important test for the Huskies, as they currently sit fifth in the BIG EAST standings.
The Huskies are led by junior Lauren Kahn, who was named to this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll for her four point performance against Oregon on March 26th. In the game, Kahn also recorded five ground balls, four draw controls, and caused three opponent turnovers. Kahn leads the team in points (35) and is second in goals with 18, trailing only Pippit who has scored 19. The Huskies have dominated their opponents this season, holding a 111-76 edge in goals and holding a superb .507 shot percentage.
On Sunday, UConn will face a Villanova team that holds a 5-4 overall record (0-1 in BIG EAST Play). The Wildcats are 3-0 this season at home and have won four of their last five games. In BIG EAST Play, the Wildcats fell 14-2 to No. 7 ranked Notre Dame on March 24th. Villanova has scored double-digit goals in eight of nine games this season.
Connecticut is currently 4-1 this season when playing on the road, with its last road victory coming against Fairfield on March 9.
After the weekend action, the Huskies return home to Storrs to take on Cincinnati on April 12th at 3:00 pm at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
