PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 10, 2013) --- UConn freshman Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.), who won two tournaments in his first year as a college player, has been named to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Men's Golf Team.
Zaback was the individual medalist at the Connecticut Cup tourney at Ellington Ridge Country Club in the fall, posting a 5-under par 211 to top the field of 84 players. In the spring, Zaback won medalist honors at the New England D-1 Championships at Newport National Country Club, shooting a 5-under par 139, to outperform the field of 50. He led the Huskies to that tournament title.
Zaback was UConn's top player with an average score of 74.85 in 34 rounds and 12 tournaments. He had four sub-70 rounds and shot par or better in seven rounds. He was named the BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Month for October and the BIG EAST Men's Golf Athlete of the Week on April 18. The All-BIG EAST Team included 16 players.
USF freshman Chase Koepka, who finished second at the BIG EAST championship and led USF to the team title, was named BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year by the league's 12 head coaches.
