ESTERO, Fla. - After cruising past College of Charleston, 85-24, on Friday, the No. 3 University of Connecticut women's basketball team advanced in the 2014 Gulf Coast Showcase and will take on Vanderbilt at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 8:30 p.m. The game will be televised by SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Sports Radio Network.
UConn (3-1) won its 54th consecutive regular season tournament game, led by a game-best 21 points from senior forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Anaheim Hills, Calif.). The Husky defense was superb, holding the Cougars to just 16.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 12.1 percent in the final 20 minutes. It marks just the second time over the past two seasons that the Huskies have kept their opponent to a sub-20 field goal percentage.
Mosqueda-Lewis' hot night from beyond the arc pushed her into third on UConn's all-time made three-pointer list (294), passing Ann Strother (290). Next up on the list is Husky legend Maya Moore (311).
Through four games, UConn boasts +38.2 average margin of victory and owns a +15.9 advantage on the boards and a +5 average in the turnover battle.
The Huskies and Commodores have met on the court five times with UConn holding a 3-2 all-time series lead. Connecticut has won the last three matchups, most recently topping Vanderbilt, 77-44, at home in the 2012-13 campaign. The Commodores advanced to Saturday's game after defeating Minnessota, 71-54.;
Freshman Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau posted her third double-double of the season, finishing with 21 points and 14 rebounds -- game-highs in each department -- to help Vanderbilt improve to 5-0.
The winner of Saturday's game will face Green Bay/Arizona State in the tournament's championship game on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
The Huskies will enter the contest having won 49 of their last 50 games and haven't dropped a game on a neutral court since 2011-12.
