Last Time Out
The Huskies dropped an overtime contest to UMass, 7-6, on Wednesday at McGuick Stadium in Amherst, Mass. Junior attacker Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) tallied three goals in the loss, registering her 15th career multi-goal game, while midfielder Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) added five ground balls and three caused turnovers to go along with one score.
Attacker Carly Palmucci (Herndon, Va.) and sophomore attacker Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) also netted goals for the Huskies, who ended the match with 15-13 advantage in shots. The match remained tight throughout the afternoon, as neither team led by more than two goals at any point. Finkelston's goal with 2:32 left in regulation sent the game into overtime before the Minutewomen won it on a free position attempt 54 seconds into the first sudden victory period.
Scouting The Big Green
Saturday's contest marks the first game of the season for Dartmouth, which finished last year with an overall record of 6-8. The Big Green failed to make the Ivy League Tournament for the first time in the event's four-year history last season despite a 9-8 victory over Harvard in their final game of the year. Dartmouth went 3-4 on the road in 2014, and the Ivy League member sported a record of 3-2 in non-conference games last year.
Midfielder Jaclyn Leto, who led the Big Green with 14 goals last season, returns for her junior season for a Dartmouth team that allowed just 9.33 goals per match in 2014. Leto ranked second in points (41) and draw controls (30), and her seven assists stood as the third-best mark on last year's squad. This weekend will mark the earliest start to a season in program history for the Big Green, who are 22-20 all-time in season openers.
Last season, UConn fell to Dartmouth on the road, 14-11, in the teams' first ever meeting despite two goals each from Finkelston and junior midfielder Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) Goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) recorded a career-high 15 saves, while the Huskies converted 14 of their 18 clear attempts.
Next Up
Following this weekend's game, UConn will continue its road schedule with a contest against Syracuse on Wednesday, Feb. 25 in New York. The match will get underway at 6 p.m. ET.
