The Game
The UConn women's lacrosse team is set to battle No. 3 Syracuse on the road on Wednesday (6 p.m.) at the Carrier Dome in New York. The match will be broadcasted by ESPN3, which will provide a stream of the game online HERE. The Huskies enter Wednesday's contest winless (0-2) on the road this season, while the Orange have won each of their first four home games in 2015.
Last Time Out
UConn moved past Dartmouth, 16-10, on Saturday's home opener behind a career-best six points from midfielder Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.). The junior tallied six points on three assists and three free position goals, while attacker Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) scored at least three goals for the second straight match.
The Huskies converted 13 of their 16 clear attempts, and junior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) recorded a season-high 13 saves in the victory. Nee has now made at least 10 saves seven times throughout her collegiate career.
Scouting The Orange
Syracuse comes into Wednesday's match-up with two wins over ranked opponents through its first four games. The Orange edged No. 8 Virginia, 14-13, on Monday behind five goals from attacker Kayla Treanor, who also added two assists against the Cavaliers. Treanor leads all Syracuse players with 20 points on 16 goals and four assists, while attacker Halle Majorana ranks first on the team in assists (9) and second in goals (10).
The Orange's 117 points this year rank first among Division I schools this season, and Syracuse sports the third-most goals per game (18) and the second-most draw controls (19.50) per contest. UConn's former Big East rival has outscored its opponents by 29 goals on the year, reaching at least 18 goals in three of their first our games.
Connecticut and Syracuse last met in the semifinals of the 2013 Big East Tournament. Former UConn standout Lauren Kahn recorded a game-high seven draw controls in the 19-6 loss to the Orange. The contest marked UConn's first ever Big East postseason game in program history.
Next Up
After Wednesday's game, the Huskies will resume their non-conference schedule on Sunday (1 p.m. ET) at home against New Hampshire. This weekend's contest will mark the first game played at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex after UConn's home opener last week was moved indoors due to poor weather-related field conditions.
