Finkelston, Nee Earn Big East Weekly Honors

NEW YORK - Two UConn lacrosse players took home Big East conference weekly awards for their performances in the 2-0 week for the Huskies. Senior attacker Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) was named Attacker of the Week while senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Finkelston totaled 10 goals and two assists for a combined 12 points in victories over Quinnipiac and the nationally ranked JMU. In the 21-0 shutout against the Bobcats, Finkelston racked up six goals on eight shots and tacked on a pair of assists. She added four goals against the Dukes on Sunday as well as a caused turnover and ground ball.
Nee accrued a mess of recognition after her three-save shutout contribution against Quinnipiac and her 12 saves in UConn's 12-10 upset over JMU. In the 21-0 shutout against Quinnipiac, Nee stopped every shot that came her way, making three saves in the 49 minutes she saw between the pipes. In Sunday's match-up with RV/20 JMU, Nee put up an impressive 12 saves, including two crucial saves in the last two minutes of the game, to keep the Huskies alive 12-10.
Finkelston, Nee and the rest of the Husky squad are back it again Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. for their first road game of the season at Cowell Stadium in Durham, N.H.
