UConn Opens Conference Play with Villanova

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's lacrosse team opens its 2016 conference slate Saturday, March 26 when it hosts Villanova at 1 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies currently hold a 6-1 overall record heading into conference play with most recent win coming against Fairfield. Sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) led the team with nine points (6g, 3a) in the 18-8 victory over the Stags. She also picked a ground ball and caused two Fairfield turnovers.
Seniors Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) and Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) each earned their third Big East weekly accolade for their performances in last week's contests against William & Mary and Fairfield.
Finkelston currently leads the team with 33 points (29g, 4a) followed by Nolan with 30 points (23g, 7a) and junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) with 21 (10g, 11a). Nee has started in all seven games for the Huskies and has a total 69 saves this season for a .556 save percentage, the best in the conference, and an 8.18 goals against average.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
The Wildcats are currently 2-8 overall this season entering their first Big East match-up with the Huskies. Villanova recently snapped its five-game losing streak with an 11-10 victory against Saint Joseph's Wednesday.
Graduate student Jackie Froccaro currently leads the Wildcats with 26 points (19g, 7a) followed by seniors Kelsey Denihan with 16 points (11g, 5a) and Chelsey Henderson with 14 (11g, 3a). Jaclyn Fraum has started in eight of Villanova's ten contests, stopping 33 shots for a .384 save percentage and a 10.22 goals against average.
THE SERIES
UConn has a perfect 7-0 record against Villanova in the all-time series. The Huskies and the Wildcats squared off last season where UConn defeated Villanova 14-11 on April 25, 2015 on the Wildcats' home turf. Finkelston led the team with a season-high seven points (5g, 2a).
