Huskies Look to Extend Win Streak at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The No. 19 UConn women's lacrosse team looks to extend its winning streak to four games Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. when it faces Rutgers on the road at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The Huskies are currently 3-0 after defeating Quinnipiac, James Madison and New Hampshire to start their 2016 season. In its most recent victory at UNH, UConn brought down the Wildcats 13-7 with four goals each from seniors Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) and Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.).
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) made 14 saves against the Wildcats. She has a total 29 saves this season for a .630 save percentage and a 6.04 goals against average. Nee and Finkelston took home Big East weekly awards back-to-back weeks for their performances in UConn's first three match-ups.
Finkelston currently leads the team with 17 points (14g, 3a) followed by sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) with 11 points (9g, 2a) and Fazio with eight points (6g, 2a).
SCOUTING RUTGERS
Rutgers is currently 1-4 this season. The Scarlet Knights opened their season with a 14-8 victory on the road against Villanova, but are currently riding a four-game losing streak. Two of Rutgers' four losses came against nationally ranked opponents, the first to No. 15 Johns Hopkins and its most recent loss to No. 16 Penn.
Kristina Dunphey currently leads the Scarlet Knights with 13 points (11g, 2a), followed by Halley Barnes with 12 (10g, 2a) and Kim Kolodny with nine (5g, 4a).
Goalkeepers Devon Kearns and Bianca Dente have split time in net for Rutgers with Kearns playing 123 minutes and Dente 176. Kearns has made 16 saves this season for a .421 save percentage and a 10.71 goals against average, while Dente has stopped 29 shots for a .403 percentage and a 13.58 goals against average.
THE SERIES
UConn trails Rutgers in the all-time series 5-13. The Huskies and the Scarlet Knights met last season at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, where UConn defeated Rutgers 18-7 in March of 2015. Finkelston led the team in scoring with four goals, followed by sophomore Kelsey Catalano (Stony Brook, N.Y.) who finished with three.
