Huskies Face UMass, Boston College in Midweek Matchups

STORRS, Conn. - Winners of three of the last four games, the University of Connecticut softball team plays two midweek contests when it hosts Massachusetts on Tuesday and travels to Boston College on Wednesday with both games beginning at 4 p.m.
The Huskies (16-25, 3-7 AAC) most recently took two of three games from East Carolina this past weekend, using the long ball to their advantage. Three different players smacked home runs in the series against the Pirates.
Senior Valerie Sadowl batted .429 on the weekend, recording six RBI and blasting a three-run homer in Saturday's game to give the Huskies a permanent 8-5 lead over ECU.
Senior Alyson Ambler hit a three-run home run in Sunday's game, while freshman Taylor Smith smacked her first-career home run as a pinch hitter in the same game. UConn needed just six innings to beat ECU on Sunday, 15-7, tying its season-high for runs scored in a game.
Appearing in all three games as a reliever, freshman Jill Stockley picked up two wins over the weekend while hurling 11 innings in the circle. She struck-out seven batters and walked only two in her appearances against the Pirates.
Junior Dominique Pinto continues to lead the team with 21 RBI, while a three-way tie exists for the home run lead. Pinto, Ambler, and senior Lexi Gifford each have three homers this season. Gifford leads the squad with 36 hits, 28 runs and nine stolen bases.
UConn looks to build on its two-game winning streak on Tuesday against the Minutewomen at Burrill Family Field. UMass holds a 47-43-1 advantage in the all-time series. After a five-game home stand, the Huskies travel to play the Eagles on Wednesday, a team they hold a 42-27 series edge over.
Scouting the Opponents
UMass (14-21, 8-5 Atlantic-10) won two of three games against St. Bonaventure most recently, relying on sophomore pitcher Meg Colleran to pace the effort. Colleran is 12-14 in 29 appearances this season with a 2.23 ERA and an 89 to 49 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Jena Cozza leads the team with a .364 batting average and Taylor Carbone leads with 24 RBI. The Minutewomen currently sit in third place in the Atlantic-10.
Boston College (21-18, 4-8 ACC) were recently swept in a three-game series by Florida State and have lost eight of its last nine Atlantic Coast Conference games.
Tatiana Cortez is the Eagles' biggest slugger, leading the team in home runs (11), RBI (28), and batting average (.330). Pitcher Jessica Dreswick leads the team with a 10-6 record and a 2.22 ERA.
