Men's Soccer Concludes Exhibition Play on Saturday

STORRS, Conn. - Six days after cruising to 2-0 victory over UMass, the UConn men's soccer team wraps up its two-game exhibition slate on Saturday, Aug. 20 when it hosts Rutgers at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
UConn enters its fourth season in the American Athletic Conference and looks to improve on a 10-6-6 overall record from a season ago. In 2015, Connecticut reached the finals of the league tournament before securing its 17 thNCAA tournament bid in the last 18 seasons.
On Tuesday, senior tri-captain Jake Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was selected as the preseason American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was joined on the preseason All-Conference team by Kwame Awuah (Toronto, Ont.), Abdou Mbacke Thiam (Dakar, Senegal), and Simen Olafsen (Oppegaard, Norway).
In total, the Huskies' 2016 regular season slate features seven teams that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Additionally, 11 of UConn's 18 opponents finished last season with a winning record, while eight programs record the 10-win plateau.
Rutgers is coming off a 12-7-2 campaign in 2015, reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament after posting a 4-4-0 overall mark in conference play.
