KINGSTON, R.I. - Fresh off a 5-1 victory over Loyola (Md.) on Saturday night, the UConn men's soccer team heads to Kingston, R.I. to challenge URI on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (4-3-0) registered its first five-goal output in two seasons on Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium, topping the Greyhounds in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Sophomore forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) scored a pair of goals in his return after missing two matches, while redshirt-junior Andrew Geres (Portland, Conn.) tallied a career-best four points in the Husky win.
With the victory, Connecticut improved to 25-6-7 at Morrone Stadium since the start of the 2013 campaign and has outscored opponents, 24-to-7, in its last 10 home matches. Additionally, the Huskies' five-goal output marks the team's highest total since it topped Temple, 5-0, in the 2014 American Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
The Huskies own a 2-0-0 all-time record against the Rams in a series that dates back to 2003. URI enters Tuesday's tilt with a 3-3-1 overall record and an 0-2-0 mark at home.
Through seven matches, UConn ranks third in The American with a 1.71 goals per game average and leads defensively with a 0.84 GAA. Individually, Thiam's 1.80 points per game mark stands in third, while Kwame Awuah's (Toronto, Ont.) four assists are the second-best mark in the conference.
