Taylor Anderson Wins 60m Dash at Vanderbilt Recap

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The UConn women's track and field team held its own amongst a stiff field of competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational, which concluded on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Huskies set eight new personal bests and had at least five athletes record top-ranked times in the conference.

"We had a good meet, which included a win by Taylor Anderson, who improved upon her second-ranked conference time" head coach J.J. Clark said, "we had top-two conference ranking performances by Kat Surin, Hannah Parker, Sydnee Over and Emily Durgin. The throwers continued to improve with three more personal best performances this weekend. Overall, good marks and a good meet."
Senior Taylor Anderson won the 60m dash, improving on her second-ranked conference time by running 7.46.
In the weight throw, freshman Chanell Botsis shattered her previous personal record to finish seventh overall with a mark of 57' 6.5'' (17.54m). Junior Kelli Thomas came in at 11th after she recorded a 55' 3.5'' (16.85m) throw.
Freshman Divine Oladipo was one of UConn's top finishers after she boasted a personal best 48' 0.75 (14.65m) in the shot put to capture third place.
Five Huskies finished in the top-25 in the 800m. Freshman Julia Sprout set her personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:21.91. Sophomore Hannah Parker led UConn in that event, earning a fourth-place finish with a top-ranked time in the conference (2:07.94). Sydnee Over also had a top-ranked conference performance in that event with a time of 2:10.71.
Senior Emily Durgin ran one of the top-times in the conference in the 3000m event (9:40.87) where she finished 11th. Sophomore Kat Surin set a career-best time of 54.28 in the 400m, which also ranked among the top times in the conference.
Sophomore Kelsey Swanson, junior Katie Foley and freshman Danielle Jordan all set new career bests in the mile. Swanson came in at 5:01.82 with Foley (5:07.97) and Jordan (5:08.74) right behind.
Four Huskies finished in the top-10 of the 5000m. Sophomores Courtney Akerley, Ericka Randazzo and Mary Monda Oewel finished fourth (17:24.53), fifth (17:24.69) and sixth (17:41.36), respectively. Fellow sophomore Haley Hasty set a new personal record in the 5000m with a time of 17:56.77, which put her in 10th place.
Senior Christine Donat recorded a season-high 16' 3.75'' (4.97m) in the long jump. She also posted 37' 5'' (11.40m) in the triple jump to finish in the top-15.
Sophomore Nicole Kelly tied her personal record of 11' 9.75'' (3.60m) in the pole vault Saturday.
Connecticut's 4x400m relay team (Surin, Over, Brown, Parker) set a new top-mark in that event with a time of 3:47.45, which put them in fifth place. In the 4000m distance medley relay, UConn's A squad (Randazzo, Surin, Over, Akerley) also set a new team best time of 11:46.19 to take third.
