STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn rowing program, which became a varsity sport in 1997, will commemorate its 20thanniversary this season by hosting an organized tailgate prior to UConn football's home game against South Florida on Saturday, Sept. 9.
All rowing alums are encouraged to attend in order to catch up with old friends and teammates -- as well as head coach Jennifer Wendry, who has led the Huskies in each year of the program's existence -- and then watch the football game afterwards.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (ET) and the fun will begin in the Rentschler Field parking lot prior to the start of the game. Details are still to follow in terms of an exact time and meeting place.
All alumnae who are interested in coming to the 20thanniversary celebration can contact assistant coach Kathy Les (Katherine.les@uconn.edu) for more information.
Since the program began in 1997, the Huskies have had success on the water -- most notably earning a third-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships in 2014 at Mercer County Park.
In 2005, the team finished fourth at the Big East Championship -- its highest finish as a member of the conference -- and won the points trophy at the Dad Vail Championship.
Most recently, the UConn Second V8+ finished in third place and the Third V8+ placed second at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships in Sarasota, Fla. Rising junior Maja Barnouw was named All-Conference First Team and rising sophomore Emily Woodrow earned All-Conference Second Team.
