STORRS, Conn. – Jacob Hauser-Ramsey was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced by the conference office this afternoon. The standout defenseman aided in anchoring the Husky backline, holding Memphis to just four shots-on-goal en route to the 2-0 shutout this past Friday. Hauser-Ramsey last received these honors back on Sept. 9.
Joining Hauser-Ramsey on this week's conference awards list was freshman forward Ibrahima Diop. The Pennington, N.J. native earned Rookie of the Week honors following his performance in UConn's victory over Memphis. Diop fired three shots during the contest, two on target, and nailed one – a breakaway goal in the final minute that secured the Husky victory.
Senior Dayonn Harris and RS Junior Austin Aviza also received conference honors, earning spots on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll team. Harris jumpstarted the UConn offense in the second half, firing a dart through the low side from the top of the box to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Aviza recorded four saves on the night, earning his fourth win of the season when manning the post.
Diop and Aviza join Felix Meltzer, Justin Hauser-Ramsey, Abdou Mbacke Thiam and Dayonn Harris on the list of UConn players to earn conference awards this season. Meltzer earned AAC Rookie of the Week back on Aug. 27, while Mbacke Thiam and Harris have each earned weekly honor roll accolades twice .
