PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Due to inclement weather conditions, the UConn men's soccer team's match against Providence College was called off on Tuesday night.
Rain begin to fall prior to the start of the game, but the precipitation didn't halt the former Big East foes from beginning the match. Play continued under the rainy conditions until the 34th minute of the first half when lighting was spotted near Anderson Stadium. The teams were forced to the locker room to endure the mandatory 30-minute waiting period.
Following the 30 minutes, both teams retook the field and finished the remaining 11 minutes left in the half. Providence went into the half leading 1-0.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, lighting was spotted near the stadium again, forcing another 30-minute waiting period. Due to more subsequent lightning, the game restart time continued to be pushed back as both teams waited for the lightning to pass, but it never did.
Due to the 3-hour rule and the game clock never reaching 70 minutes, the game was officially called off. Despite UConn trailing 1-0, the game will not count against the Huskies' 2018 record.
