WEST POINT, N.Y. – The UConn women's swim and dive team defeated Army 158-142 on Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool.
"It was a good day for our team. We really swam hard under some challenging conditions being on the road. Our women did a real nice job responding to the challenge Army put up tonight. They (Army) came ready to compete for the win and our women held our ground swam are races well and came out with a win," said head coach Chris Maiello.
Senior Jackie Van Lew won the 100 & 200 Freestyle events which was a theme for the Huskies. UConn won every freestyle event with Brazil Rule taking the top spot in the 50 and Ryan Dulaney earning a pair of wins in the 500 and 1000.
The Huskies dominated the 200 IM by sweeping the podium. Jennie Novak (2:08.06), Holly Parker (2:10.16) and Georgia Apostolu (2:10.68) helped turn the tide for UConn.
"I think the signature event for the afternoon was the 200 IM, said Maiello. Going into the event they had some momentum and we were a bit back on our heels a bit, Novak, Apostolu, Parker and Walsh came through maybe with the event of the year so far."
