Seniors Lead No. 2 UConn Past Vanguard

STORRS, Conn. – Seniors Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson each scored 26 points to lead the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team past Vanguard, 96-30, in the Huskies' first exhibition of the season Sunday afternoon in Gampel Pavilion.
Sophomore Megan Walker and freshman Christyn Williams earned their first career starts in the tune up. Walker posted 11 points and led the team with 12 rebounds while Williams had 10 points and five boards.
The Huskies had just 10 turnovers in the game and scored 25 points off turnovers. UConn outrebounded the Lions 63-34 and held a 23-6 advantage in rebounds.
Connecticut started the game on a 25-0 run and outscored Vanguard 34-6 in the first half. Collier shot 100 percent in the first half for 12 points as UConn took a 69-11 lead into halftime.
Samuelson scored 17 points in the second half and added six boards and four steals.
UConn shot 52.7 percent from the floor while holding Vanguard to 15.2 percent shooting.
All 11 Huskies on this season's roster saw action against Vanguard.
The Huskies open the 2018-19 season against Ohio State next Sunday at 12 p.m. in Gampel. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
