STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's cross country team will head to the University of Buffalo for the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship being held at the Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, N.Y. on Friday, November 9.
The men's 10k race will feature runners from 38 teams throughout the region and will step off at 12 noon on Friday afternoon. At last season's NCAA regional race, also held at the Audubon course, the Huskies finished 11th overall in the field of 37 teams. The Huskies put their top-five runners all inside the 77 top finishers in the field. Syracuse is the defending champion at the event.
Senior Patrick Begley (Suffield, Conn.), coming off an all-conference showing at the 2018 American Athletic Conference title race two weeks ago, finished 21st at last year's race, earning All-Northeast honors. He finished that race in 32:35.9. At the AAC race, Begley was ninth to lead the Huskies to a third place finish.
Senior Kyle Brackman (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) will also be in the field, coming off a 13th place finish at the AAC race and was 70th at last year's NCAA race. Classmates Kyle Barber (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Michael McGonnigle (New Fairfield, Conn.) will also be in the Husky lineup. Barber did not run at last year's race while McGonnigle took 63rd at the race.
Junior James Mas (Trumbull, Conn.) will return to this year's race after finishing in the UConn top-five last fall, running in 77th at 33:46.7. Sophomores Eric van der Els (Norwalk, Conn.), Sean Parker (Bridgewater, Conn.) and Will Brisman (Fairfield, Conn.) are in the UConn lineup and set to run their first NCAA regional races.
