STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's rowing team announced its spring schedule on Friday afternoon, as the Huskies gear up for the second half of the 2018-19 season.
Coming off a solid fall campaign, UConn looks to keep the momentum rolling as the team heads into preparation mode for the spring season.
The first race of the spring is scheduled for March 22 at UCF in Orlando, Fla. Jacksonville will also be competing in this race. On April 7th, the Huskies will race against Holy Cross and Boston College in Worchester, Mass.
"Our spring schedule presents a lot of great racing opportunity for the Huskies," said 22nd-year head coach Jennifer Sanford. "Kicking off the season facing conference champion UCF at the end of Spring Break is an opportunity to match up against our fastest competition in our conference early in the season. Racing Holy Cross and Boston College is always a good race for us, testing our speed in a one shot deal as opposed to heats and finals."
The next three regattas the Huskies will compete in are the Knecht Cup (April 13-14), Cherry Hill Invitational (April 20) and the Eastern Sprints (May 5). UConn will wrap up the season with the AAC Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. May 19.
"The other races including the Knecht Cup, Cherry Hill Invitational, and Eastern Sprints will be a good test of fitness having multiple races in a day or weekend, while facing a very competitive field of teams. We have a very large group of solid seniors, who are looking to end their rowing career at UConn with a strong finish at the conference Championship in Oklahoma City. Although we have barely experienced winter yet, we are in full swing with training so that we can compete at a high level at the end of March when the season begins."
