Huskies Tie Bryant, 9-9

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team tied Bryant 9-9 in 10 innings due to darkness at J.O. Christian Field on Wednesday evening.
The Huskies (17-10-1) battled back from a four-run and three-run deficit to earn the tie. In the eighth inning trailing 9-6, Zac Susi lined a bases clearing double past the outstretched dive of the Bulldogs left fielder to tie the game, 9-9.
Bryant jumped ahead in the third inning with a three-run home run and RBI single to take a 4-0 advantage. Thad Phillips chipped away at the deficit with a two-run single in the third to make it 4-2.
John Toppa recorded a career-high four hit day, the first for a Husky in 2018, including a pair of doubles in the contest. Toppa lined an RBI double down the right field line in the fourth to bring the Huskies within a run, 4-3.
In the fifth inning the Huskies tied the ballgame with a pair of RBI singles from Troy Stefanski and Chris Winkel.
The game didn't remain tied for long as the Husky defense committed three errors in the sixth inning that gifted the Bulldogs three runs.
The UConn bullpen was solid on Wednesday with six pitchers combining to allow just one earned run in 7.2 innings. Colby Dunlop helped keep the game tied in the 10th by stranding a pair of runners after recording back-to-back strikeouts.
The Huskies begin a nine-game road stretch in Wichita, Kan. against new conference foe, Wichita State. The series kicks off on Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. EST.
Notes
The last time the Huskies tied a game was on May 15, 2012 vs. Rhode Island, 2-2, in the top of the ninth.
John Toppa recorded the first four-hit game for a Husky this season and the first of his career.
Zac Susi has reached base in 19 straight games.
