Huskies Look to Defend National Title With Challenging 2018 Slate

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut field hockey team looks to defend its National Championship crown, but it will be no easy task as Head Coach Nancy Stevens announced the squads' 2018 schedule Tuesday morning.
This year's slate includes eight home games to be held at the Sherman Family Complex and features 12 matchups against teams that ended their season ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Top 25 and six contests versus 2017 NCAA Tournament participants.
UConn, which returns five starters from a season ago, opens the year with a trip to Illinois with contests against Northwestern (Aug. 24) and Stanford (Aug. 25).
The team kicks off home action Aug. 31 against Michigan State before hosting BIG TEN Champion Michigan on Sept. 2
The Huskies then travel to Massachusetts (Sept. 7) before hitting the road for upstate New York to square off against an old BIG EAST rival in Syracuse on Sept. 9.
UConn returns to Storrs to host Quinnipiac (Sept. 15) in conference action, before hitting the road for a pair of matchups versus Old Dominion (Sept. 21) and William & Mary (Sept. 23).
Conference play continues on Sept. 28 at the Sherman Family Complex as UConn takes on Temple, before entertaining Maryland (Sept. 30) in a rematch of the 2017 National Championship Game.
Next, the squad visits Providence (Oct. 5) for a Friday night match up prior to hosting Princeton on Oct. 7.
The following weekend pits the Huskies against Villanova (Oct. 12) in friendly confines and perennial foe North Carolina (Oct. 14) in a neutral site contest held at Boston College.
UConn will host league opponent Liberty in its final home tilt of the year on Oct. 18.
The Huskies hit the road for its final three contests to face Boston University (Oct. 21), Georgetown (Oct. 26) and American (Oct. 28) to conclude regular season play.
UConn will vie for its sixth straight regular season and tournament title as the BIG EAST semifinals will be played on Nov. 2 with the final occurring on Nov. 4, hosted at Liberty University. NCAA Tournament first and second rounds will be played Nov. 10-11 at host schools with the NCAA Final Four starting Nov. 16 and the championship match set for Nov. 18 at Louisville.
