STORRS, Conn. - As the UConn softball program enters the summer months, it looks to catch up with some of the people who have laid the groundwork to make the team what it is today - reviving its "UConn Softball: Where Are They Now?" feature series to highlight the accomplishments of some of our proud alumni.
Kristina Tolles, a softball alum that played at UConn from 2004-08, has managed to stay in college athletics after her playing career ended. After her time at UConn, she furthered her education at Tufts University before being hired for her current post at Boston College.
Tolles, who lives just outside of Boston, works as an academic counselor for the BC student-athletes - contributing to their classroom success just as the Student-Athlete Success Program does at UConn for its own athletic programs. She works primarily with the baseball, softball, rowing, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and volleyball programs.
A pitcher from Southington, Conn., Tolles enjoyed a solid senior campaign in 2008 with a perfect 4-0 record in the circle in 13 appearances. She recorded 14 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work, helping the Huskies to a 22-22 (13-7 Big East) finish and to the second round of the conference tournament. She also had four hits with a home run and three RBI in 14 at-bats.
Under Hall of Fame head coach Karen Mullins, the Huskies won 37 Big East games during Tolles' tenure with the program, including three 20-plus win campaigns overall.
Earning multiple degrees from UConn in psychology and sociology, as well as human development and family studies, Tolles was second-to-none when it came to succeeding in the classroom as a student-athlete. She was a four-time selection to the NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team and to the All-Conference Academic All-Star Team.
