STORRS, Conn. – It was announced on Monday that Annie Belanger and Leah Lum were drafted into the Canadian Women's Hockey League. One more member of the 2017-18 UConn women's ice hockey team is about to join them in the professional ranks.
Graduated senior Theresa Knutson, the third all-time leading goal scorer in UConn program history, will continue her playing career in Germany for the Mannheim Maddogs.
"We are happy for Theresa and her opportunity to continue her career," said head coach Chris MacKenzie. Knutson tallied 51 goals for the Huskies in 136 games played, behind only Jaclyn Hawkins and Dominique Thibault all-time in UConn history.
Â
"Going to UConn was a similar experience," said Knutson. "I knew no one going in, but was embraced by the team when I arrived. Being on a team really allows me to feel like family away from home. I am very excited and blessed to begin this next chapter in my life."
Knutson's 79 career points rank sixth in program history, as she comes off an 18-point (13 goals, five assists) season with the Huskies as a senior in 2017-18. Â
