Huskies Fall in Season Opener to No. 21 UCF

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior quarterback David Pindell had a career night as the UConn football team fell to No. 21 UCF, 56-17, Thursday evening in the 2018 season opener at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.

Pindell set a UConn record for quarterback rushing yards in the program's FBS era with 157. He also set a career high with 266 passing yards, going 27-for-41.

The Golden Knights took a 14-0 lead six minutes into the game. Redshirt junior Michael Tarbutt got UConn on the board with a 44-yard field goal. Pindell threw a 5-yard pass to senior Tyler Davis for a touchdown, but UCF took a28-10 lead into halftime.

The Knights scored four touchdowns in the second half. Pindell rushed in for a TD with 3:11 left in the game.

Senior wide receiver Kyle Buss finished with 113 receiving yards to lead the game, his first career 100-yard receiving game in a UConn uniform. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Keyion Dixon tallied 151 kick return yards, averaging 25.0 yards per return.

UConn moved to 2-4 all-time vs. UCF. The Huskies are now 12-4 in home openers at Rentschler Field.

The Huskies return to action at Boise State next Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10:15 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
