Matt King Named Director of Football Strength and Conditioning

STORRS, Conn. – Matt King has joined the University of Connecticut as the director of football strength and conditioning, as announced by head coach Randy Edsall on Friday, January 11. King comes to Storrs after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Washington since 2016.
"I'm pleased to announce Matt King as our new head strength and conditioning football coach," Edsall said. "Matt is a very well respected man in the industry. His enthusiasm and knowledge will greatly enhance our student-athletes as we continue to move forward with rebuilding our program. Matt came highly recommended to me and our staff has familiarity with Matt during his career. We look forward to Matt getting on campus and starting with our players on January 22."
While in Seattle, King assisted in the design and implementation of year-round training programs for UW's football team. Prior to his time at Washington, King was the director of speed and athletic performance at Columbia University where he designed and implemented speed training programs for the football team and also worked with the field hockey team.
From 2013-15 King worked at his alma mater, the University of Maine, as a director of speed and strength and conditioning. While in Orono, King worked with several sports including the football team.
Prior to his time with the Black Bears, King worked at Velocity Sports Performance/Premier Athlete Training in Foxboro, Mass.
King graduated from UM in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in communications and earned his master's degree in kinesiology and physical education from Maine in 2015. He was a member of the Maine football team from 2002-06 and was voted team MVP and captain during his senior season.
An Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference selection in 2006, King was a consensus First Team All-America pick that year and was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented to the nation's best NCAA FCS defensive player.
King has earned Level 1 certification from USA Track & Field and is Precision Nutrition certified. He is also a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and earned Level 1 certification as a Sports Performance Coach by United States Weight Lifting.
