HANOVER, N.H. – The UConn women's swimming team lost its first dual meet of 2019 at Dartmouth, 154-83.
Three Huskies notched first place finishes on Saturday evening with Georgia Apostolu winning the 100 Backstroke with a time of 58.21. Meg Wenman (200 IM) and Jennie Novak (100 IM) also captured top spot races for UConn.
"Overall, tonight's meet was a hard fought challenging racing night for us," said head coach Chris Maiello. "Give credit to Dartmouth for a great meet, but we are looking forward to getting back to training. We have not officially competed in over a month and it showed a bit in the first half of the meet. I think as the meet went on we swam closer to our ability level. It was a close finish on the men's relay to close the meet, we were able some make line up adjustments that were to our benefit and we came out on top and that was the difference in the meet. It was a good meet during some difficult training at this point in our season, we are pleased with our progress, we have a lot of work to do before our AAC meet, but I am confident we can get it done."
Holly Parker recorded a runner-up finish behind Wenman in the 200 IM while Jackie Van Lew (50 Free, Ryan Dulaney (1000 Free) and Katelyn Walsh (100 Breast) all earning second place races.
Up next, the Huskies resume Winter Training with a trip down to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to close out winter break. The next UConn meet will be Senior Day at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium on January 26 at noon vs. Villanova.
