STORRS, Conn. – Junior captain Robin Lapert and sophomore keeper Gianluca Catalano took home major conference awards for their on-field performances last week, as the American Athletic Conference announced the winners of the league's weekly men's soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 13.
Lapert collected AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors following stellar performances on both sides of the ball during the Huskies' 1-1 week. The junior cashed in UConn's lone goal during a 2-1 setback to Providence Tuesday afternoon, converting a header off a corner kick in the 50'. Saturday night, Lapert assisted the UConn backline in limiting the Cincinnati offense to just two shots on goal en route to the Huskies 2-0 win – their first of conference play.
Catalano earned the conferences' goalkeeper honor this week after collecting six saves. Catalano scooped up four saves in the loss to Providence, then added two more Saturday night as he turned aside a shot in each half to backstop the Huskies to victory. The sophomore posted a 0.99 goals-against average for the week and also earned his second shutout of the season.
The Huskies face Syracuse Tuesday night at 7:00pm at the SU Soccer Stadium. The match will be broadcast on ACCNX.
