WROW Competes at 55th Head of Charles Regatta

BOSTON, Mass. – UConn women's rowing competed at the 55^th annual Head of the Charles Regatta Saturday afternoon on the Charles River. The Huskies had three boats competing in the event.

UConn had good representation entering two crews in the Women's Club Fours event and an eight in the Women's Club Eights. Out of the three entries, the Huskies earned one top-10 placement and secured two guaranteed spots in the Women's Club Fours event for next year's 56th edition of the Head of the Charles.

"Our three boats that raced today all raced well," said head coach Jennifer Sanford. "Our coxswains did an exceptional job steering and that is the most important part of this race."

Competing against some of the most elite rowing programs in the country, the Huskies captured a 9th place finish in the Women's Club Fours on Saturday afternoon. UConn's 'A' boat recorded a time of 19:20.551 while UConn's 'B' boat finished in 19:53.006, which was good enough for 18th place.

Sanford went on to say, "The Head of the Charles is the premier fall event, and its always a great experience just being a part of the regatta."

Later in the afternoon, UConn picked up 18^th place in the Women's Club Eights, finishing in a time of 18:15.888. Although they didn't place as high as they would've liked, Coach Sanford was proud of the crew's effort.

UConn faced talented programs from Tennessee and Duke, as well as Ivy League powers Radcliffe, Penn and Yale. Overall, the Huskies had a strong performance and look to continue making progress through the next week.

"We are looking forward to practicing this week to prepare for the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia Saturday."
