Myles Bell comes to UConn all the way from Plantation, Florida. He's had a key role in the secondary early in his UConn career, playing in three of the first five games this season and making four tackles. Last week, we interviewed him about his time at UConn so far.
Q: Tell me why you picked UConn.
MB: Really because I came up last year on a visit and I had a great visit coming up. Everybody made me feel like I was a part of the family. Coach Edsall told me I was going to have an opportunity to play. That's the main thing I wanted, just to have an opportunity to be on the field. Also to help the team get back to how it used to be.
Q: What's your favorite thing about playing football here?
MB: Just being around my brothers, being around the team all the time. It's a great group of guys. I really feel like I came in here and I feel like a brother. I feel like one of them, so it's really fun being around them all the time.
Q: What's been the biggest adjustment for you from high school to college football?
MB: Definitely just like learning everything about the game, like different aspects. Then just the speed of the game. It sped up a little bit.
Q: You got into your first game against Indiana. Can you describe your first college football game experience?
MB: That was a really cool experience for me. I was really excited to get in. Obviously I had some butterflies but when I got in, I had to snap out of it really quick because this is real so you gotta focus on the field. It was good being on the field for the first time playing D-I football.
Q: What's it like being able to come in as a true freshman and be able to get those snaps on the field?
MB: It means a lot to say that I could contribute early as a freshman. I just gotta keep doing my thing and just stay humble and work hard.
Q: What do you feel is the best part of your game right now?
MB: My ability just to make plays. I can cover well and make tackles too, so just playmaking.
Q: What's something you'd like to improve on this year?
MB: Technique definitely. I'm always trying to work on technique. Always moving your feet.
Q: What's something you'd like UConn fans to know about you?
MB: That I'm just here to help the team come back and get back to being great.
Q: What's a personal goal for you this season?
MB: I want three picks.
