PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The UConn men's swimming and diving team came up short against Ivy League foe, Brown, 198-102Â on Saturday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center.
"Today was a challenging day of racing for our program, said head coach Chris Maiello. "Competing on the road against a tough opponent our team rose to the challenge but it was not enough to overtake a really good Brown team. I am happy with the way our team did not back down and had races that showed some grit and heart. Even in the loss our staff is encouraged and excited about the future- both in the short term and the long term. As we continue to develop from a program standpoint we need to compete against teams at a higher level. Our team proved that we can consistently race with higher level competition. We are excited for our next phase which is a run for our championship season."
Jack Muratori had a career-day with career-best times in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. The sophomore posted a time of 21:04 in the 50 and backed it up with a 46.17 mark in the 100.Â
Senior Will Kearsey won the 100 Backstroke (49.26) and followed it up with strong swims in the 50 and 100 Freestyle.Â
North Hansen and Karl Bishop captured the top two spots in the 1000 Free with season-best times of 9:19.79 and 9:34.35, respectively.Â
"As always North was strong in the 1000, said Maiello. "We can see it in training, he is going to have a good AAC meet if he keeps up this hard work."
Josh Wroblewski captured a season-best mark in the 200 Free with his runner-up finish in 1:40.13 and Joey Homan notched his season-best time with a second place finish in the 200 Back (1:51.69).
On the boards, Kyle Kennedy had a solid day taking second place in the 1M and third place in the 3M event. Torrington Wagner took third place in the 1M.
"Overall, the divers did well today," said head diving coach Josh Arndt."They have been doing a fantastic job over the past few months training hard to reach our goals. We had sone fatigue going into today's meet, but they left it all in the pool. I'm excited for them to have a bit of break going into Thanksgiving and coming back refreshed for the Rutgers Invite."
UConn returns to the pool on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Rutgers Invite.Â
