Five Huskies Earn NFHCA Mideast Region Honors

STORRS, Conn. - Five Huskies earned spots on the 2019 Longstreth/NFHCAÂ Division I Mideast All-Region team, as announced on Monday.
Senior Svea Boker, redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher and freshman Sophie Hamilton garnered first team status while senior Antonia Tiedtke and sophomore Abby Gooderham landed on the second team.
The five Huskies were intricate parts in leading UConn to a 19-4 record and No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. UConn captured the Big East regular season and tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.Â
Boker led the Huskies with 21 goals, 55 points, 91 shots and four game-winning goals.. Her 21 goals and 55 points both rank No. 4 in the country. The Bremen, Germany native earned Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors along with earning Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player accolades after scoring two goals in the Big East Championship game. Boker was a First Team All-Conference performer and finishes her career all over the UConn record books with her 55 career assists (3rd), 163 points (5th) and 55 goals (8th).Â
Sprecher started all 23 games in goal for the Huskies and ranked No. 1 in the country with a .842 save percentage and .790 goals against average. The Palmyra, Pa. native posted 13 shutouts and made 96 saves en route to being named Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference recognition.
Hamilton put forth a great first season in Storrs, securing First Team All-Big East status while starting all 23 games for the Huskies as a freshman. The midfielder ranked second on the team in goals (9), assists (14) and points (32) and highlighted her first season at UConn with a game-winning goal against No. 25 Fairfield in the NCAA First Round.
Tiedtke and Gooderham both captured All-Big East Second Team accolades. Tiedke closes her UConn career with 49 assists, ranking fourth in program history. The Frankfurt, Germany native finished third in the country with her 16 assists and added four goals.
Gooderham started all 23 games and played well on both sides of the ball. The midfielder collected eight goals, nine assists and 25 points during the 2019 campaign.Â
The Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the First Point USA/NFHCA Regional Player of the Year awards (December 5) — they will be followed by the Longstreth/NFHCA All-American Teams (December 10) and the First Point USA/NFHCA National Player of the Year (December 16).
