2019 adidas MLS College Showcase Invitees
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Dayonn Harris has been invited to the inaugural 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase, announced by Major League Soccer Wednesday afternoon.
The introduction of the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase, a three-day event from Dec. 13-15 in Raleigh, NC, will give technical staff from every MLS club an opportunity to scout the top collegiate soccer players in the nation, regardless of age. The event will see approximately 40 top college players, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participate in a series of training, testing, interviews and match play, allowing MLS clubs to interact with potential SuperDraft selections earlier in their collegiate career.
The 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase occurs in conjunction with the 2019 NCAA Men's College Cup and is a closed-door scouting event officially sanctioned by the NCAA.
Players on the four teams still in College Cup contention will not participate in the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase, however technical staff from MLS clubs will attend the remaining College Cup matches in Cary, N.C. on Dec. 13 and Dec. 15.
Homegrown-eligible underclassmen players – young talents developed by MLS club academies – will not participate in the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase.
Harris, a native of Milton, Ontario, started in all 39 possible games during his UConn career, proving to be a lethal threat out on the flank. The senior forward scored two goals and dished out a team-high nine assists during the 2019 season, pushing his three-year total to 14 goals and 20 assists for 30 points. Additionally, Harris was a finalist for the 2019 Senior C.L.A.S.S. Award and earned a nod to the American Athletic Conference First Team for his on-field performance during the season.
The Huskies have had 37 players taken in the MLS draft since the league began in 1997, with Jacob Hauser-Ramsey being the latest MLS draftee. The Huskies made history in 2015 when Cyle Larin was picked No. 1 overall by Orlando City SC. With the selection, UConn became the first program to have back-to-back first overall picks after Andre Blake was selected with the first pick in 2014.
