INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The UConn swimming and diving teams heads to the 2019 American Conference Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27 and running through Saturday, March 2. The meet can be streamed on The American Digital Network,
The Huskies look to improve on its women's sixth place and men's fourth place finishes in The Championships, a season ago.
"We are excited to get back to racing, especially in a championship format and environment, said head coach Maiello. "Our American Conference is competitive in swimming and diving with teams who will participate at the NCAA championship and Olympic Trials. This is the perfect environment for our season culminating meet."
"I think it is important for our team to understand the bigger picture when it comes to our sports. Our team has shown personal growth through the season and we are ready to put all the pieces together from our training," said Maiello.
The men's team returns 11 conference scorers from last season including seven swimmers that earned All-Conference honors. The Huskies currently have four of the top eight entry times in the 1650 Free.
Will Kearsey looks to three-peat in the 100 and 200 Back with the junior finishing in first place in both events during his freshmen and sophomore campaigns.
Overall, the men's team had a solid season, going 6-3 against a tough slate. Markus Hunter, Matt Dagenais, Joshua Wroblewski, Karl Bishop, David May and Luke Martin all return after capturing All-Conference last season.
For the UConn women, the focus will be on the senior class and their impact on the points race. Jackie Van Lew, Monica Marcello, Maddy Blair, Julie Hu and Annika Grewal get set for their last conference meet as Huskies and look to go out on top.
Sophomore Ryan Dulaney currently ranks fourth in the 1650 Free among conference competitors. The Huskies bring back three All-Conference performers from a year ago and Monica Marcello is an All-Conference diver who missed last season's meet due to injury.
