Kat Surin named AAC Female Track Athlete of the Week

STORRS, Conn.—Senior sprinter Kat Surin of the UConn women's track and field team has been named this week's American Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete, as announced by the conference this afternoon.
Surin was one of the six different student-athletes to take first-place in their events at the Scarlet & White Invite last Saturday in Boston, Mass. She was also one of two Huskies to break UConn women's track and field records during the meet. Last but not least, she was one of the 23 student-athletes to set a new personal record. Surin competed in the 400 Meter Dash and finished with a time of 53.19. This amazing performance was noted as a national mark, is the fastest by any UConn student-athlete this indoor season and broke a school record established in 2014, 53.38.
She was also the second leg in the 4x400 Meter Relay with an independent time of 52.223. The Relay Team concluded the event taking first place overall at 3:38.83, for the fastest time this season and second fastest in school history.
"This is definitely a well deserved honor for Kat to be named the Female Athlete of the Week. She is well deserving and has trained very deligently to be at this level. We look forward to her continued success. Her performance this season has added to the her team's preparation for the conference and championship part of the season."

The Huskies will travel back to Boston to take on challengers at the Valentine Invite on Saturday, Feb. 8th.
