UConn Opens 2019 Campaign at No. 13 Syracuse

STORRS, Conn. – Taking the playing field for the first time as a member of the American Athletic Conference, the UConn women's lacrosse team kicks off the 2019 slate when it travels up to New York to battle it out on the field against No. 13 Syracuse on Friday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Opponent and Series History…
- This is the second consecutive year that UConn and Syracuse have played each other to begin the year. Syracuse won last season's matchup, 23-11.
- In the all-time series between the two schools, Syracuse hold has come away with the victory in all 20 matchups. The Huskies will look to put an end to that streak on Friday
- Syracuse enters the season coming off a 9-10 mark in 2018. The Orange are led on offense by attackers Emily Hawryschuk (53g, 8a) and Nicole Levy (41g, 10a) and midfielder Sam Swart (36g, 2a).
- Sophomore Hannah Van Middelem mans the net for Syracuse, posting a 12.47 goals-against average and a .435 save percentage.

Katie Woods enters her 9th season at the helm of the UConn Lacrosse program in 2019. The most successful coach in UConn women's lacrosse history, Woods has accumulated a 107-96 record, six winning seasons and two conference Coach of the Year Awards during her time in Storrs.
